I think i've always been greedy. Almost all of my very early memories are food-related, and I don't think this has changed as I have grown up. My love of food has shaped my career path, and my waistline (for worse and then for better!)
I'm not a food snob; far from it. Some of the foods I love the most are straight from packets, or almost entirely processed. I just enjoy the simple pleasure of eating something which brings me joy.
These days I reside in London, and getting to enjoy the wide variety of food culture here is such a massive perk (not to mention a luxury) that I want to experience as much as I can. Pretty much the only caveats to what I will try are that a) It's affordable b) It doesn't take a waiting list to get it and c) It can cater for a vegetarian. I've been a vegetarian for almost 15 years and despite my Granny asking me every time I visit if i'm 'still doing that vegetarian thing?'; I don't think that's going to change anytime soon. This was also the motivation behind the 'hippy' aspect of the name.
Until this point I had been trying and failing to write a blog about moving to London, whilst simultaneously posting daily food pics on Instagram. A chance reflective weekend away in Germany with no internet made me realise that I was searching around for a good blogging topic, yet I had one right in front of my face in the form of great-tasting veggie food I was eating and wanted to tell people about, yet kept as a fairly hidden hobby.
So this blog aims to be a celebration of fantastic food and where to find or make it. They say that people fall into two camps, Eat to Live or Live to Eat. If you, like me, fall into the latter camp then I hope you will enjoy this blog with me.
Happy eating!
Mel
